Legal Aid is the use of public money to help pay for legal advice, family mediation and court representation.
In order to receive Legal Aid in nearly all Divorce and Child Law cases, you need to be financially eligible.

As a rough guide, Legal Aid will not usually cover solicitors’ fees in Divorce and Child Law cases unless the Local Authority have started the court action and / or there has been domestic abuse / violence / financial control.
An example of financial control would be being stopped from accessing a joint bank account.
